I’ve been a fellow Whovian for some years now. Besides cosplaying the Tardis from Doctor Who, I also have a few Doctor Who tattoos. You might be wondering how to cosplay Doctor Who though. It’s actually really easy and comes with a variety of options. Whether you want to cosplay any of the doctors, companions, non-human allies or enemies, you’re bound to be able to pick someone you like.
How to Cosplay the Doctors or Companions
Cosplaying as the Doctor or one of his companions are incredibly easy. So when you ask how to cosplay Doctor Who and pick these characters, you’re in for smooth sailing. The best way in my opinion to do this, is by heading to a thrift shop. Most of the Doctors and companions’ wardrobes consist of normal pieces of clothing. Whether you choose later Doctors like 9, 10, 11 and 12 or earlier ones like 1, 2, 3 and 4, you’re sure to find what you need with some simple thrift shopping. It’ll also help save you money. The same goes for companions though. Characters like Donna, Rose, Clara and the Ponds all wear normal clothing items so as long as you’re patient in the thrift hunt, you’ll be able to pull it off.
How to Cosplay Non-Human Doctor Who Allies
The Doctor had many allies between companions and others. However they also had plenty of non-human ones as well that are a little more difficult to cosplay than the Doctors themselves. Some of them do wear normal clothes that you can thrift, others you’re looking at sewing yourself. It’ll also more than likely require SFX makeup especially if you select allies like Madame Vastra.
How to Cosplay Doctor Who Villains
The Doctor faces off with many different foes. From different robotics to other alien-like species, there’s an assortment of options to choose from. Bringing these characters to life takes a bit more work depending on what you aim to do. For the alien-like foes you can create costumes by sewing and use SFX makeup to truly make yourself look out of this world. For robotics like Daleks and Cybermen, you have some options. You can totally use EVA foam or even wood to create moving suits to look just like the robots. However, you could also do a custom design of them. Similar to my Tardis cosplay, I custom planned a design themed around wearing formal gowns. There’s also been others who have created ball gowns themed off the Daleks and more you can try to custom sew. The Doctor Who villains definitely give you lots of options and room for creativity.
