Why I Chose Alan Grant (Genderbed)
I always loved dinosaurs as a kid. So it shouldn’t shock you I worshipped Alan Grant too. However I really wanted a tie off denim shirt for it instead of Alan’s standard denim shirt just because it’s a design option I really like. So that led me to genderbending Alan Grant and I fell in love right away with the concept. It was my first time trying to convert a character for a genderbend as well so it was a great opportunity to explore something new and creative in cosplay.
Final Thoughts
This cosplay project had a lot of new experiences involved. Between it only being the second pattern I drafted, the second thing I made from EVA foam and also my first genderbed, I gained a lot of knowledge. Mostly I want to share, don’t be afraid to try it and cosplay can be done on a budget.
How I Made Alan Grant
This gave me a chance to practice making EVA foam props with my velociraptor claw. Originally I was shopping for replica props but I finally decided screw it, why can’t I just make it? It was a lot of fun to make and simple as well. Due to the simplicity I was also able to make the template myself and thus make it available for you FOR FREE on my Ko-Fi Page.
The rest involved thrifting. I was still very new to cosplay and didn’t own a sewing machine to create clothing. It also was just more affordable to thrift for a pair of green cargo shorts than buy fabric and make my own. I often try to cosplay on a budget since I am a homeowner and can’t just fabric shop as I please.
