This summer, I was able to drive up with friends to Wisconsin multiple times to attend the Bristol renaissance faire. I hadn’t been since 2019, before the pandemic so it was such a great feeling to be back. I saw great shows, shopped, spent quality time with friends, dressed up and ate a lot of food. So, I wanted to do a Bristol Renaissance Faire summer recap to share about all the cool things I did especially with costuming.
Bristol Ren Faire Snacks and Drinks
I want to get this out of the way first. The Bristol ren faire has some absolutely iconic foods available to eat and signature cocktails. I of course go all out while I’m there when it comes to eating. I enjoyed everything from the iconic cheese fritters, mushrooms, beignets, ice cream crepes and my all time favorite, the potato soup in a bread bowl. And yes, I realize it was summer, but it is always a good day for soup.
In terms of drinking, my usual is the Queen’s Revenge or a Robin Hood. Occasionally I would have a sassafras as well.
Bristol Renaissance Faire Shows
I love to stop and watch the performers at Bristol. Some of them I have been watching for years now and it was great to see them again. I saw everyone from Moonie the Magnificent, Adam Crack, Barely Balanced and of course the joust. It was also the first time I caught the joust to the death which was amazing.
Shopping at Bristol Ren Faire
Now I don’t usually do too much shopping while at the faire. Most of my costumes I make myself so I only make very select purchases of things that I know I could never make myself. This included two purchases this year. One was a fan with beauitful peacock feathers and the other was a double sided velvet bodice. Now yes, I can make bodices but sometimes it’s nice to have one sewn by someone with my skill than you. Plus it was a reversible red and black one so I am bound to get a lot of use out of it.
Crafting for Bristol Renaissance Faire
I did a lot of crafting to be ready for this years faire. I wanted to dress up every time I went so I made everything from bodices, overcoats, gowns and a variety of accessories like belt pouches and potion bottle holders. There will be quite a few videos on how I made such things and at some point I made need to do a “tour my ren faire bin” video as well just to cover everything I’ve made.
Bristol Ren Faire Recap
Overall, I had so much fun being back at the faire. After a small hiatus it was a great feeling to walk around Bristol again. It was also the first time I really made a lot of my stuff to dress up for the faire since I have finally been getting back into sewing. I also got to go with some of my greatest friends which is probably the best part. Together we’re already thinking about next year. I can’t wait to get some new stuff made for us to parade the Bristol ren faire in 2024.
