Making content isn’t as easy as it seems. It requires time, dedication and the right equipment. From software to equipment, there’s a lot you need to make quality content. These are the 17 cool cosplay tools I use everyday to make content that generates traffic and conversions. For social media, blogs and YouTube, you need these tools.
Tools for Making Cosplay Content
- Camera – There’s a lot of options when it comes to cameras. For livestreaming, I prefer a Logitech webcam that captures high quality footage. For capturing videos and photos, I am partial to my iPhone. Anything past the 13 pro is a great option in terms of a camera. You don’t have to buy expensive tech to get quality footage or photos. Most phones these days can cut it.
- Lighting – Ring lights and regular lighting can help improve a photo or video shoot. I like to keep some options so I am able to really cater to the setting I am working in. From lighting colors or tones to how the lights mount and angle, I have two lights to keep my equipment versatile for all my lighting needs.
- Tripods – I need quite a few different tripods. I have one I use for my phone to do YouTube filming and cosplay photoshoots. I have tried two different tripods that I like a lot. One is more flexible to move and another comes with a ring light. I also keep one that can mount to the table for overhead angles. Then I have a mini one to shoot my YouTube intros at my desk.
- Backdrops – Create themed backgrounds for photoshoots or just have a clean, solid back drop to hide your space and immerse your fans. You’ll need a stand for the back drop and then you can create fabric backgrounds or buy them. You may also want to have a green screen back drop.
- Mirrors – It can be hard to see the photo you’re taking unless you’re doing selfies. But then you lose photo quality. Use the superior camera while knowing what you’re capturing solo. Either with a full length mirror set up or get a clip on mirror for your tripod.
- Mics – Recording audio for videos or live streaming requires a quality mic. I have always enjoyed Blue brand mics such as the Blue Snowball. However the Yeti is also a great choice. If you are recording audio away from your desk, you may want to consider lavalier mics that connect via Bluetooth to your phone.
- Computer – For editing, content scheduling, research and more, I need my computer. A laptop or desktop can work just fine. However if you want to live stream you may want to consider a higher quality desktop.
- Lightbox – For thumbnails and portfolio photos, I use a lightbox while I photograph props. It ensures a perfect back drop for my smaller items that don’t involve me dressed in a costume. It’s also great for product listings on ecommerce stores.
- Selfie stick – When I go to cons or the Renaissance faire, I prefer to have a selfie stick with me. It’s great for vlogging, pictures and more. The one I have also acts as a tripod and comes with a remote to take pictures.
- Camera Remote – Rather than use a timer when I take photos on my own, I keep a couple camera remotes lying around. They connect via Bluetooth and work for phones and cameras.
Software for Making Cosplay Content
- Canva – Most of my digital assets are created with Canva. For video intros, thumbnails or promotional materials, I can easily create and assemble in the platform. Plus they have a free version making it very affordable.
- Photoshop – Photoshop is ideal for more advanced photo editing. It’s commonly used for cleaning up cosplay photos, adjusting colors, removing backgrounds, and creating composite images.
- Davinci Resolve – DaVinci Resolve is what I use for editing long-form video content like cosplay tutorials, build videos and convention vlogs. I use it to cut footage, add basic effects, adjust color and sync audio. This also has a free version unlike Adobe Premiere.
- Audacity – I use Audacity to record audio for all of my YouTube videos. It’s a free program that makes it easy to capture clean voice recordings, adjust levels and make simple edits before adding the audio to my videos.
- CapCut – CapCut is what I use for quick edits and short-form content. It’s ideal for TikToks, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts when I want fast turnaround without opening a full desktop editor.
- Google Suite – I rely on Google Drive tools such as docs, sheets and slides to plan content, outline tutorials, track video ideas and organize cosplay projects. I also use Google Search Console and Google Analytics to help better manage my website.
