Coming up with cosplay ideas for comic con isn’t always the easiest. Every cosplayer deals with creative block every now and again. Plus when it comes to comic characters there is so many and it can be incredibly hard to choose from. So hopefully these tips and ideas will help
Is it OK to Cosplay at Comic Con?
Typically it’s ok to cosplay at comic con. I definitely recommend checking the specific cons website to be certain though since it may vary from con to con. There is typically convention rules and restrictions though for cosplaying. This is usually around things like masks, if your costume has nudity, or weapons. Conventions will not allow you to bring in an actual weapon for a cosplay so you need to be sure your prop meets their guidlines. You can also take safety measures like orange tips for gun props, tip less arrows, and destring bows. You will often have to stop at a weapon check to get it marked as safe before entering.
As for nudity, most cons won’t allow it so makes sure your cosplay either covers all your parts or explore pasties. Masks are hit or miss. Your superhero costume may have a mask but not all comic cons are ok with them so be sure to check ahead of time.
What Should I Cosplay at Comic Con?
Anyone of course! It may say comic con but most comic conventions are open to cosplays from any fandom really including videogames, movies and more. However if you want specific comic cosplay ideas for comic con then try out some of these:
- Antman or Wasp – The Marvel universe released Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania thus it is a great time to cosplay as either the Antman or the Wasp. Whether you specifically become Paul Rudd’s Antman or the more comic book style suit, you’re sure to be popular on the con floor.
- Nebula – Guardians of the Galaxy has multiple well received movies. Thus it’s a great time to cosplay any of the Guardians. For those of you more savvy with heavy makeup though, Nebula is the perfect one for you.
- Spiderverse – With the really popular Spiderverse films taking the comic fandom by storm, you can try your hand at cosplaying anyone. From Miles to Peter and even SpiderGwen, the options are endless.
- Loki – Loki gives you a lot of options for costumes between the different movies and all the variants you could cosplay. Or you could simply design your own!
- Captain Marvel –If you want a strong, independent woman character, Captain Marvel is perfect for you. Whether you choose her standard suit or the iconic dress from The Marvels.
- Joker – The last one on our list is Joker. Joker has a variety of options with all the different portrayals and genderbends of Joker out there.
- The Boys – While edgier and grittier content, any of the iconic heroes from The Boys can be a great cosplay. From Homelander to Starlight, you have plenty to choose from.
- Batman Vs. Superman – While I don’t mean the film specifically, I mean the age old debate of who would win in a fight. You can bring those two icons of the comic book universe to life though by cosplaying either Superman or Batman.
