Why I Chose Daemon Targaryen

The armor was one of my favorites throughout the show. The detail, color and dragon embellishing was gorgeous and well thought out. I knew almost immediately I had to create it. I also really enjoyed the character, Daemon. He’s incredibly complex with the all be it, bad things he does but with actually really good motives behind them. So, I decided I had to cosplay Daemon.

As time went on, I discovered other garments from Daemon where I felt the urge to make it as a cosplay. This included his tunic with the red piping.

Final Thoughts

This cosplay let me really explore a variety of skills. Both old and new ones, I got to try 3D printing and embossing leather for the first time, I worked on my pattern drafting and got to experiment more with puffy paint. It was such a fun project that I also got to closely work on along side my rabbit Nan before she passed. She was always my cosplay sidekick and this was the last costume I made with her at my side. So I reflect on this costume with a lot of nostalgia and some bittersweet memories.

How I Made Daemon Targaryen

I drafted a good majority of the patterns to make this cosplay. The entire armor set and shield is made from EVA foam, with every individual chest armor scale being entirely hand patterned, cut out, textured, painted and glued on. From there, the sword and dagger were 3D printed, pants and tunic sewed, wig styled, shoes weathered and scale skirt also individually cut out and assembled. I used puffy paint for the elevated dragon details through the armor and embossed my belts.
