The world of fantasy has taken mainstream media by storm. With things like D&D and renaissance fairs being more and more popular, fantasy cosplay ideas are a must have. Whether you wear it to pop culture conventions, comic con or a ren faire, any fantasy character will wow other attendees. But what such characters exist in this genre? Many actually. Here are some different fantasy media sources and characters from them to try for a new cosplay.
- Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit – These books and movies are a huge staple in the fantasy world. It has a vast abundance of incredible characters to choose from too. Whether you aim for Gandalf himself, Legolas or any of the hobbits like Frodo or Bilbo, it’s sure to be recognized as a great fantasy cosplay idea.
- Zelda and Link – The kingdom of Hyrule is a medieval-fantasy land. So of course the main cast of characters like Zelda and Link would work for a cosplay.
- Narnia – The world in the wardrobe is another of fantasy. With source material including movies and books, you’ll be able to find lots of references when selecting characters. It also gives you options with main characters like Peter and Lucy, thoughtful allies like Mr. Tumnus or evil villains like the White Witch.
- Game of Thrones – With how many characters lived and mostly died on Game of Thrones, there’s sure to be one you can cosplay as. This show and the books gives us plenty of cosplay fantasy ideas. Houses like Targaryen gives us Danenerys, the Starks have Jon Snow and Arya Stark, Lannister has Jaime or Tyrion, Martell has Oberyn, Tyrell with Margaery or unleash your wild side with Khal Drogo or Ygritte.
- Dragon themed armor – This option can help you release your creative mind. Design a custom set of armor that’s themed around dragons to create a unique, new fantasy cosplay.
- Ren faire garbs – You can never go wrong with royal or peasant ren faire garbs. There’s tons of sewing patterns out there to make them. Plus, most fabric stores have plenty of materials to come up with endless combinations of fabric.
- Fairy or elf OC – Making OCs can be a lot of fun if you want something unique and not seen before. Elves and fairies are common species in fantasy realms. So designing your own can be a great cosplay as well.
