How I Made Misty
Misty was such a fun one to put together. The costume itself was mostly clothing I purchased. As for the wig and pokemon balls, well, that was quite the challenge.
The wig took a LOT to make and to get the perfect, iconic Misty ponytail. I relied a lot on books from Kinpatsu and Cowbutt Crunchies to really perfect the wig and I was beyond THRILLED with the final result. It took about three reworks as I continued to learn and hone my craft with wig styling and I am so glad I was willing to admit to my inadequacy and make changes as I learned more.
Now the wig as I said took multiple reworks as I continuted to learn more about wig styling. It was probably anywhere from 4 to 6 reworks. The last one being the finalized version (so I think).
This wig require mounting the pony tail with worbla and a bolt to the main wig. The pony tail itself is helf up and together with EVA foam and Glued spray wax. It hold a little better than hairspray and thus makes the gravity defying pony tail last longer.
The Pokemon balls I was torn on. Originally I figured I should 3D print them but I did not have a printer at the time and I assumed I probably am not the only Pokemon cosplayer in that boat. So, I figured let’s make foam ones and teach everyone else how to as well!
The goldeen dress was my absolute favorite to make though. I created a silk white bodysuit and attached a variety of different color organzas to create the flowy tail.

Why I Chose Misty
Pokemon was probably my first anime I watched and it was something I absolutely obsessed over as a kid. From the show, to the movies and even the video games and trading cards, I was invested in it all. My favorite of the characters (besides the Pokemon) was the iconic trio of Misty, Ash and Brock.
I decided cosplaying Misty would be a great way to bring me some nostalgia. But I couldn’t just stop at her standard yellow crop top and shorts. I also so badly wanted to create her goldeen dress. The elegance of that outfit had me head over heels and I wanted to be able to wear it.
Final Thoughts
I had such a good time creating this cosplay. From the simple assembly of clothing for standard Misty, to the gravity defying wig styling and needlework, it all was a labor of love. The final results made me so happy and I can’t wait for my next Pokemon cosplay.
