With National Pokemon day on February 27th, you need to consider these Pokemon gijinka cosplay ideas to celebrate. Anthropomorphize these cute and fierce creatures into amazing costumes that you can either purchase parts for or make from scratch.

The biggest thing to consider when designing a unique gijinka cosplay based off a Pokemon is the color palette and any unique icons or patterning to them. You want to make sure they’re incorporated into the costume like with Togepi, they’re a light yellow and white and have the blue and red triangles. This may cause you to create garments that are white or light yellow with the pattern on it.

Pokemon Cosplay Ideas

  • Sailor Moon or DnD Eeveeloutions mashup – Mashups are a great way to create unique gijinka cosplays. It is common for some groups to do a Sailor Moon or DnD classes mixed with the Eeveeloutions. This creates opportunity to create something entirely unique. You can even purchase existing Sailor Moon costumes and modify them if you aren’t looking to entirely craft it from scratch.
  • Armored Charizard or Blastoise – These two Pokemon are perfect for an armor build with foam, 3D prints or Worbla. You can design custom breast plates, pauldrons, shields and even swords to complete the look.
  • Ballgowns – We’ve seen many iconic Venusaur ballgowns for Pokemon cosplays. You can truly make one though for any Pokemon. Or shop around for a ballgown that you think best fits the theme of the Pokemon you’re trying to be.
  • Bunny girls (not just for Buneary) – This option is for more than the rabbit-based Pokemon. Turn any character of your choosing into a bunny girl with a simple one piece bodysuit and some ears. There’s even purchasable options available for Pokemon like Pikachu, Eevee and more.
  • Mismagius or Misdreavus witches – These Pokemon are perfect for creating your own witchy design. Have fun sewing something no one else has done by following the unique colorings of the Pokemon for your cosplay.
  • Trainer Minun and Plusle – Similar to creating a unique witch cosplay, you can do trainer style Plusle and Minun. You can even use some of the trainer looks from the Pokemon franchise to help get your started.
  • Armored or elegant dressed legendries – If you’re more interested in cosplaying legendaries, you can do elegant gowns or suits like from the ballgown option mentioned above. Or you can do an armor set like we mentioned for Charizard or Blastoise but for legendaries like Groudon or Giratina.
