Starfire Cosplay

How I Made Starfire

The majority of this cosplay involved sewing and I tried out French seams for the very first time since I needed to ensure the fabric edges were finished. I pattern drafted the entire cosplay myself and I’m hoping to have the patterns available in my shop.

I also got to explore making boot covers which involved more sewing. The process was really cool and stepped up my skills for creating footwear for cosplays.

The armor for my neck and arms were made from foam and Worbla which ultimately was a challenge as I’m not that familiar with thermoplastics. It also pushed me to try out resin which lets just say I’m not a fan of.

Final Thoughts

Starfire will always be a meaningful build for me because she was the first cosplay I ever competed in, and she pushed me to take my craftsmanship seriously. Creating her look meant figuring out how to balance clean construction and it was one of the first projects where I really paid attention to finishing, fit and overall polish. She set the bar for how I approach my work now and reminded me how much I love the process of making a character come together piece by piece.

Why I Chose Starfire

Starfire is pure sunshine in character form, and I’ve always loved how she brings this bright, optimistic energy everywhere she goes. She’s strong, sparkly, a little chaotic-in-a-cute-way, and somehow both princess and total badass. Getting to cosplay her means leaning into that warm, glowing confidence she radiates — and honestly, who doesn’t want an excuse to pretend they run on solar energy and good vibes?
