Getting started with cosplay can be hard. Thankfully there are many guides, tutorials and more to help get you going. With the abundance of help out on the internet, how do you know which are worth dedicating time to? These are the only cosplay resources you’ll ever need to help get you into making with all different materials.
Resources for Crafting Cosplays
If you want to start crafting cosplays, use these resources to get started:
- Communities – There’s a lot of communities to be apart of with cosplay. Some are great to get support or guidance on a costume you want to craft. You can find just general ones where you can ask questions or showcase costumes or you can find more dedicated groups like for your region or specific materials you want to craft with. There’s two platforms that hub some really good communities:
- Discord
- YouTube videos – There’s so many tutorials on YouTube. Even I have a channel with cosplay tutorials. Some are of course better than others. Googling can help you find one that fits the exact niche you need. However, there is channels that are very reputable:
- Books – Similar to YouTube, there’s a lot of books out there for purchase. All cover a wide range of topics relevant to crafting cosplays. Some are better than others and some offer more variety and options.
- Craft Cosplay starter kits – If you’re not sure what supplies to purchase to start crafting with foam or Worbla, there’s starter kits you can order. It helps get you started with all the materials you need and some guidance for your first project. Find the right kit and size that works for you.
- Convention panels and workshops – Conventions host panels and workshops where experts can teach on different topics in cosplay. These are great in person opportunities to learn directly from the best and sometimes ask questions at the end.
