There’s a wide variety of mediums that can be used to craft cosplays. From foams to fabric, the world is truly your oyster. One popular option is the power of a 3D printer. However mediums like foam, thermoplastics, fabrics and even 3D printing requires templates, patterns or files of some sort to properly make the cosplay. While finding sewing and foam patterns can be a breeze, you might be left wondering, where to find free 3D printing files. Thankfully I happen to know of a few places that I have downloaded from and trust.
Where to Find Free 3D Printing Files for Cosplay
My Mini Factory
It has a lot of great options for basic files as well as cosplays. There is a variety of free and paid for options so make sure to check out the pricing before assuming. You’ll want to review the ratings and all time downloads though to verify if the file is trustworthy.
Printables
I only recently discovered this site but have found a large library of free 3D print files for cosplay. I even have found some great files for foam texture rollers as well. Similar to My Mini Factory, always check the reviews before downloading.
Thingiverse
This site has an abundance of free files to download and print. I use it the most of all sites. As always, check reviews and ratings before downloading and printing, but most files on the site I have downloaded have been pretty reliable. With a variety of options from all sorts of popular media, you’re sure to find something you’re looking for when searching where to find free 3D printing files.
Other Cosplayers
There are lots of cosplayers out there that sell cosplay patterns for foam, fabric and even 3D printing. I say as a rule of thumb, if you like the cosplayer, always explore their shop. You never know what amazing things you could find. That’s how I came across KamuiCosplay’s free file for the Fallout pipe revolver pistol.
