There’s different slang terms you may hear cosplayers use as you spend time in the community. If it’s the first time you’re ever hearing the word, you’re probably wondering, what is a costest in cosplay. We’re going to tell you everything you need to know about costesting and why it’s important.
A costest essentially is combining the words costume or cosplay and test. A costest is when a cosplayer tests out the costume look before fulling committing to or sometimes even finishing a costume. You’ll try out whatever pieces of the cosplay you do have, completed or not, along with the makeup as well. Then you can verify how it wears and looks to make changes before completing the costume or taking it to a convention. People will often share images or footage from the costest to get feedback as well.
Why Costest Cosplays
So what value does a costest give?
- Get feedback – Share photos with friends from your costest and ask their opinion. Then you can take their feedback to make changes.
- Find pain points – Sometimes we don’t make a costume right the first time. Testing your costume let’s you see what doesn’t fit or look right so you can make changes to it.
- Address mobility issues – There could also be mobility issues with a cosplay that you don’t know about till you try it on. It’s better to find these things out before you get on the con floor.
- Road map additional crafting – By putting everything on, you can better make a cosplan to finish making your costume.
