From multi day cons to long photoshoots, you need your costume to hold up for long hours. Everything from your shoes, wig and even makeup have to survive the entire event. This can of course be difficult between sweating, weather and more. So if you’re wondering how do you keep cosplay makeup on all day, we have the answers for you.

How to Make Costume Makeup Stay?

Before, during and after applying your makeup, you need to do a few things to help make your makeup last.

Before Applying Makeup

  • Use a primerPrepping your skin before you put on makeup is essential for long term wear. Find a primer you prefer to create a base your makeup can grip to. You can also get specific primers for eyes and lips to help secure your eyeshadow and lipsticks.

During Makeup Application

  • Use long-lasting products – Quality products that are proven long-lasting can make a huge difference. Try to test out different foundations, concealers and more to see what holds up and what doesn’t.
  • Apply setting spray between layers – Setting sprays can be lightly applied between layers. This is especially helpful in between applying cream and powder makeups.
  • Properly layer product – How you apply makeup matters. Be sure to layer everything properly. This means starting with cream-based products and then your powders. Be sure to let each later dry before adding another.

After Applying Makeup

  • Use setting powder and spray – Both setting powder and sprays can help lock in your makeup once you’re done applying. Use a translucent powder in areas that get oily and your spray all over in multiple layers.
  • Use a barrier spray – For more heavy-duty protection, you can also apply a barrier spray which is designed to help withstand sweat and friction. This is also great for body paint.
  • Avoid touching your face – Once your makeup is on and you’re at the con or photoshoot, make sure not to touch your face. Otherwise you may smudge or wipe off your makeup on accident.
  • Reapply setting spray – Throughout the day, you can reapply setting spray to help maintain your makeup.

How to Keep Costume Makeup From Sweating Off?

Sweat can often be the culprit for why your makeup doesn’t last. While it’s hard to avoid sweating when in heavy costumes or at a con, you can keep your costume makeup from sweating off. The key for this is a sweat barrier spray.

Does Setting Spray Stop Makeup From Sweating Off?

Some setting sprays can stop makeup from sweating off. A sweat barrier spray can be applied before putting on makeup to help create a barrier between the makeup and sweat. Then, set all your makeup with a setting spray.
