Whether you’re looking for liquid latex alternatives due to an allergy or you just hate the smell, you’ve come to the right place. While the material is great for SFX makeup and cosplay, there is other options that can work well too.

Liquid Latex Alternatives

  • Anything water-based – For people with a latex allergy, your best bet with alternatives is looking for something water-based. Body paints and other liquid makeups can often be safe, you just need to verify they are 100% latex-free.
  • Gelatin – This can be used to make flexible prosthetics that are completely latex free. You will have to adjust and experiment with the recipe though.

Alternatives for Sculpting & 3D Effects

To create the elevated, sculpted SFX makeup looks without latex, you have quite a few options.

  • Scar wax – This can be made at home with simple stuff around the house. Mix flour and Vaseline to create textures and other effects directly on your skin.
  • Makeup wax and gels – You can purchase SFX waxes and gels to create 3D, sculpted effects. It’s more solid that liquid latex but works just as well.
  • Silicone rubber – This is a professional-grade material and is great for more industry-standard prosthetics.

Adhesive Alternatives

Because liquid latex can adhere to skin on it’s own, you may need an alternative adhesive to attach prosthetics and more.

  • Spirit GumSpirit gum is a strong and popular SFX adhesive. It’s perfect for attaching prosthetics but needs to be used with a remover as well when you take them off.
