Getting ready for the Renaissance faire? Don’t forget to make yourself a costume. If you’re about to embark on sewing your own ren faire garbs, you should consider trying some of these Renaissance costume patterns to create something special and unique. Keep in mind, some of the listed patterns have since been discontinued and may require more hunting from thrift stores, online resellers and more.

Renaissance Faire Sewing Patterns

While these aren’t for big armor builds, these Renaissance costume patterns are perfect for a seamstress.

  • Simplicity 4059 – This men’s pattern can help your create an assortment of tops, pants and even a hat. You can mix and match whichever patterns from this set to create something unique for yourself.
  • Simplicity 5574 – Another men’s pattern, but with different options for both pants and tops. Create more of a royal and elegant look with this option.
  • Simplicity 5582 – This set of patterns is perfect for a bar wench or peasant girl look. With tops, bodices and skirts to choose from, you can create something no one else would have.
  • McCall’s 8131 – Looking for a pirate themed costume? This pattern can create the perfect pirate top for men and women.
  • Butterick 6196 – This is another set of patterns perfect for creating a bar wench or peasant girl look. This one also includes an apron option.
  • Butterick 3906 – This set also contains patterns for a bar wench or can easily be used for a female pirate. Create a chemise with a sleeve length of course choosing with a bodice and overskirt.
  • Butterick 6114 – Really committed to the female pirate look? This pattern has chemises, bodices and a coat to make you look like a pirate captain.
  • Butterick 5371Looking to make your own accessories? This pattern has everything for bags, belts, bracers and more.

Renaissance Bodice & Corset Patterns

These patterns will work best with brocades and jacquards.

  • McCall’s 4107 – This pattern has 8 different options to create. With all different sleeve types and choice in front or back lacing. These are predominantly over bust patterns.
  • Butterick 4254 This pattern includes both corsets and stays so you can make a form fitting costume. These patterns will require heavy boning.
  • Butterick 4669This pattern offers an assortment of designs for front lacing, over bust bodices.
  • Butterick 5935These corsets have both front lacing and back lacing choices with a variety of cute sleeve choices.
  • Butterick 5662 – Whether you want straps or strapless, these front lacing coreset options are sure to have something that fits your needs.
  • Simplicity 9592This is another pattern set with different front lacing, over bust bodice designs but has a few that aren’t available in the Butterick 4669 option.

Renaissance Dress Patterns

  • Butterick B4571 – Looking to create and elegant princess dress from velvets or silks? This pattern is perfect with it’s elegant sleeves.
  • Simplicity 3812 – This option gives you multiple royal or upper class gown choices with long sleeves and an empire waist.
  • Simplicity 9929 – Choose from multiple gown options that also come with matching headwear.
  • Simplicity 7749 – This option is perfect for a more elven option. It could even be used to create costume from LotR franchise.
  • Simplicity 8363Looking to create a rogue or ranger like gown? This option has the perfect dress with armor patterns as well. It can also work for an elven character.

Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon Themed Options

Looking to cosplay a specific character from one of these shows? These would be perfect for a Renaissance faire costume. Try the following patterns:

  • Simplicity 1009 – Choose from multiple options perfect for Cersei Lannister.
  • Simplicity 1137 – These have options for both young Sansa Stark or for her from the end of the show.
  • Simplicity 1347/1010 – There’s two numbers to this pattern for a recolor on the images. Otherwise there is always multiple options for Daenerys Targaryen in Qarth or her Dothraki wardrobe.
  • Simplicity 1246/1006 – This pattern also has 2 numbers due to recoloring. It gives 2 dress options, including one for Daenerys and one for Margaery Tyrell.
  • Simplicity 8768This pattern has dresses from later seasons of the show for Cersei and Daenerys.
  • Burda 6398 – This pattern is for Sansa Stark’s wedding dress from when she married Tyrion.
  • Simplicity 9593 – Looking to be either Daemon or Aemond Targaryen? These patterns can create quite a few of their outfits from the show.
  • McCall’s 7854 This pattern includes multiple dresses for Daenerys.
  • Simplicity 9812This includes dress patterns for young Rhaenyra and Alicent.
