So as most of you know, recently the trailer for Jurassic World Dominion came out. I had goosebumps watching it over and over. Every time Alan Grant and Owen Grady say “don’t move” it sends chills down my spine. Seeing the return of Dr. Sattler too just had me so filled with joy. As some of you know I do have an almost completed Ellie Sattler cosplay and am now pushing to finish my Alan Grant genderbend as well. So I thought with the trailer, my second ever cosplay project should be his velociraptor claw.

So I decided it would be made of EVA foam. The template I chose to make myself. I had to work on scaling it by studying pictures from the movie of Alan holding the claw. I did two pieces of 8mm EVA foam for this and glued them on top of each other. Now this project took a lot of sanding with the Dremel (I use a Dremel 3000). I had to round it out completely and smooth out the indent inside the claw as well. So I spent a few hours of this project just sanding it out with the Dremel.

After that of course we heat locked it with my new Heat gun (very exciting new toy). Priming and painting was of course a breeze. All I had to do was paint it black and then seal that bad boy. Sealing sadly got a bit put off just because the weather was kind of lousy and I didn’t have much free time during the day.

I really can’t wait to complete my Alan Grant cosplay. I have been a Jurassic Park fan for many years so to be able to portray the characters I love is exciting. Now though, I have to decide yet another new project.
