If you want a costume from the Teen Titans, this guide is for you. I’ll go over my entire build to show you how to cosplay Starfire. From sewing the top and skirt to creating all the armor pieces, this guide has all the information you need. This project will entail sewing, EVA foam, Worbla, wig styling, resin, painting and technically some body painting and makeup.
How to Make Starfire’s Top & Skirt
To make the top and skirt, I drafted the patterns myself. However for the top I used a sports bra for a base and added length to make it slightly longer. I utilized purple faux latex fabric and a silver, metallic stretch fabric for the bias tape. To finish my fabric edges I simply chose to do French seams.
How to Make Starfire’s Boots
I used platform shoes as a base for these boots. Then made boot covers that were permanently attached to the shoe. I drafted the pattern to best fit my leg and the shoe with the plastic wrap and duct tape method. The fabrics I used were the same from the top and skirt. For the bottoms of the shoes, I utilized a black utility fabric so it wouldn’t get worn out walking a con floor.
How to Make Starfire’s Belt
The belt was easy to make by just covering some EVA foam pieces to be the buckles and using more of the silver, metallic stretch fabric. To measure out the belt I just used a tape measure to figure out the size around my hips and then used that to cut my fabric.
How to Make Starfire’s Armor
There is two key armor pieces for Starfire, her neck armor and bracers.
How to Make Starfire’s Bracers
The bracers were made from Worbla and EVA foam dowels. I also made my own silicone molds for the resin gems and then colored epoxy resin and let that cure. I ultimately didn’t get very well made resin gems (curing issues) but the bracers themselves worked out ok.
How to Make Starfire’s Neck Armor
The neck armor is a foam base I covered in more silver, metallic stretch fabric. I used the same process and molds to create the gem on this piece as I did for the bracers.
How to Style a Starfire Wig
The wig I mostly had to cut bangs to length and then heavily curled the shorter bangs.
How to Make a Starfire Bodysuit (Optional)
This piece is optional and requires a lot of work to contour and highlight the bodysuit with your airbrush to make it look like skin.
