Looking to be the ghost with the most but want to trade the dirt and grunge for more glitz and glam? I’ll show you how to cosplay Beetlejuice by sharing my own concept that is exactly that. We’re going to take the character and make them a fabulous lady.

How to Modify a Beetlejuice Dress

The dress itself I didn’t make. But I did heavily modify it. I bought a button up, black and white striped dress. From there I did a number of things to modify it to fit my vision:

  • I added purple glitter mixed with clear tacky glue over the plain white buttons. Then I sealed it with a gloss Modge Podge.
  • I added skull beads in various areas. I chose green and purple colored skull beads and hand sewed them at the bottom of the dress skirt and on the bottom of the neck tie.
  • I used green fabric dye in a squirt bottle to make the splotches randomly on the dress and to add more color.
  • The dress sleeves and collar have a black, macabre lace trim sewn in.
  • The sleeves also have a gem trim with clear gem stones sewn onto it to add to the glam.
  • I made a disheveled, purple petticoat to wear under my dress to add volume.

How to Make a Beetlejuice Dress Petticoat

To add to my dress, I chose a purple petticoat fabric and a basic sewing pattern. I ultimately made it to be messy and with many layers. The layer bottoms didn’t all line up to help add to the look. I used an elastic band and had it be a separate part of the dress so it wouldn’t negatively impact the buttons.

How to Make Beetlejuice Themed Heels

  • Step 1. Surface prep – Use Angelus leather surface prep to prepare a pair of high heels.
  • Step 2. Priming – Pick a primer suited for your shoes to finish prepping the surface.
  • Step 3. Paint the bottoms – Paint the bottom of the shoe with a bright green. Then add a green glitter paint over it.
  • Step 4. Paint stripes – Paint alternating black and white stripes around the shoe. Then add black glitter paint and white glitter paint over the proper stripes.
  • Step 5. Paint the heel – Paint the heel of the shoe purple. Then paint a purple glitter paint over it.
  • Step 6. Add splatters – Once the stripes and glitter are dry, paint random green splotches onto the shoes. They should be a mossy green. Use a green glitter paint over those as well.
  • Step 7. Seal the shoes – Seal all of the painted areas with Angelus gloss sealer.
  • Step 8. Make a sandworm – The sandworm is made from a foam dowel that I heated up to wrap around the heel before securely gluing in place. The head of the sandworm was sculpted with foam clay on the dowel.
  • Step 9. Paint the sandworm – The body of the sandworm is painted to have black and white stripes. The lips are painted green and the eyes red.
  • Step 10. Later refining – While not in the tutorial, I did later glue red gems onto the sandworm for eyes and put green gems around the mouth of the sandworm for the lips.

How to Accessorize a Beetlejuice Cosplay

To really bring the Beetlejuice cosplay together, it needed accessories.

  • Wig – I got a green ombre wig that I styled to have a large curve to the side bang. The wig itself was also wavy.
  • Fishnets – I opted for neon green fishnets. You could also get bedazzled fishnets in green or purple.
  • Plush Sandworm – I made a GIANT sandworm plushy to carry around.

How to Make a Massive Plush Beetlejuice Sandworm

I created a custom sewing pattern to make a plush sandworm using black and white silks, white velvet, red cotton, green organza, yellow felt and red gems. The teeth base are made from pipe cleaners and then covered in black and white silks and clear gems. I filled the entire worm with PolyFil.

How to Do Beetlejuice Cosplay Makeup

  • Step 1. Apply white face paint on the entirety of your face and down to your neck.
  • Step 2. Contour with a mossy green powder or cream. You can also dab it around in other areas to look like moss on your face.
  • Step 3. Apply a glitter purple eyeshadow all over your lid and slightly under your eye.
  • Step 4. Use eyeliner on your top lid and a wing.
  • Step 5. Color your eyebrows with face paint or cream to match your wig.
  • Step 6. Apply a glittery purple lipstick or gloss onto only your top lip.
  • Step 7. Draw three white strips (one centered) on your bottom lip with lipstick or lipgloss.
  • Step 8. Alternate the white stripes with black stripes on your bottom lip with lipstick or lipgloss.
  • Step 9. Line your upper lip with black and have two slight curls on the outer edge.
  • Step 10 (optional). Using spirit gum, you can adhere fake moss onto your face to make your look stand out.
